Persephone - Sort - In the Deepness of Persephone

Sort was created with writer and composer Michael R. Koswil as a work combining photography, poetry and music. Inspired by the myth of Persephone, the project follows her transformation from Kore to queen of the underworld and finally to a captive longing for daylight. Working with the model Manya, each group of photographs explored a different stage of that journey. Maurel's poems and Koswil's score were developed alongside the images, each medium extending the others. The work can be experienced horizontally or vertically, like a scroll, allowing image, text and music to accompany Persephone's gradual descent through the underworld.
