UNCLEAR PICTURE — A COLLECTIVE EXPLORING THE SHADOW-LINES OF IMAGES
Unclear Picture was founded in 2011 by photographer/musician Sylvain Entressangle and poet/musician Michel Maurel with a simple starting point: an image never stops at what it shows. There is always a second layer, an echo, a fragment, a drift, and the work begins precisely there.
The name was chosen deliberately. Unclear points to the space where perception hesitates: the imperfect zone where a photograph starts leaking into text, sound, memory. That hesitation became the playground of the collective.
Working from photographs to write texts and compose music, or at times inventing concepts first and letting the images follow, Unclear Picture cultivates porous borders between mediums. Photography, poetry, music, performance: the project invites other voices (models, dancers, musicians) whenever a new contour is needed, whenever the image asks for another angle of entry.
Across analogue and digital processes, across regular and irregular poetic forms, the collective embraces constraint as a method. Each new work is a chance to break its own habits, dodge stylistic comfort, and avoid becoming a caricature of itself.
At its core, Unclear Picture has one persistent ambition:
to describe what usually escapes the first glance.
Selected works
Land – Territories of Images (2011)
Ère – Among the Paths of Père-Lachaise (2012)
Écorces – At the Edge of Rupture (2013)
D’elles – Inside the Models’ Inner Garden (ongoing)
