Bodies, Gestures & Traces - Spatial Investigations

Every series in Spatial Investigations begins with a simple premise: place a body within a set of spatial conditions and observe what emerges.

There is no choreography and nothing to reproduce. I invite the model to move freely, sometimes within the limits of a confined space, sometimes through a repeated action or an open-ended exploration. The photographs are not about directing gestures but about witnessing how they arise from the encounter between a body and its environment.

Some of the people I work with have never danced. That uncertainty matters. A body searching for its own balance moves differently from one trained to perform. Hesitation, repetition and unexpected gestures reveal a more authentic negotiation with space than technical precision ever could.

Each series introduces a different condition. In Inhabiting Space, architecture becomes a physical constraint. Searching follows the body as it explores and tests its surroundings. Duration observes how gestures evolve through time. In Growing Enclosure, the environment itself changes, as vegetation gradually reclaims the same enclosed space over successive sessions.

Rather than studying movement for its own sake, these works investigate how bodies inhabit, negotiate and transform their relationship with space. Photography becomes a way of recording an ongoing dialogue between gesture, place, time and living environments.
